Tom Sell Announces He’s Ready to Serve West Texans as U.S. Representative
Lubbock, TX — Tom Sell, a long-time conservative and local businessman, officially announced his candidacy to serve the people of West Texas in the United States House of Representatives.
A fifth-generation West Texan, Tom started a local business from scratch, partnering with former Rep. Larry Combest (R-TX19) to promote West Texas — including our farm and ranch families, cities, and rural communities throughout the southern High Plains — as well as places across this great country that share West Texas values: first and foremost, love of God and country.
Tom and his wife, Kyla — his college sweetheart — raised their four children, Noah, Luke, Daniel, and Naomi, in Lubbock. The three youngest are now in college, while the eldest son is recently married and proudly wears the uniform of his nation as an officer in the United States Army — a fact Tom and Kyla are especially proud of.
“Our country is in serious trouble right now, with the radical left trying to hijack everything we as Americans have worked so hard to build over the course of nearly 250 years,” Sell said. “President Trump is working overtime to turn our country around and to put America First — but he needs our support. America can and must be that Shining City on a Hill that Ronald Reagan once dreamed of, and it all starts on that one page of the Bible marked by President Reagan in both of his Inaugurations:
‘If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.’
By the grace of God and the kind of hard work West Texans are used to, we can do this! And it’s not just a saying — we can, and we really must, make America Great Again. Our kids and their kids and their kids’ kids are truly depending on us.”
Sell continued:
“I would like to thank my friend and our Representative, Jodey Arrington, who has worked hard for West Texas — this year alone shepherding a bill carrying so many of the priorities that we all care about, including preventing the largest tax increase in U.S. history, enforcing our borders, rebuilding our military in the face of threats around the world, unleashing our immense energy production potential, cutting wasteful spending, and shoring up the Farm Bill and Crop Insurance for West Texas farm and ranch families and producers around this great country of ours.”
After graduating from Texas Tech, Tom served as Larry Combest’s right-hand man when Combest chaired the House Agriculture Committee in the U.S. House, passing major legislation important for Main Streets across West Texas, including the 2002 Farm Bill and the Crop Insurance law of 2000.
Tom and Kyla continue to live and work in Lubbock. Both graduated from Texas Tech, where Tom earned his law degree and a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness. They love the Red Raiders and stay close to the University and the Davis College of Agriculture — mentoring students and living the motto, “From here, it’s possible.”
“We love our country and West Texas, and we want to repay all the great people of West Texas for the blessings they have given us and our family over our lifetime by standing by and defending them — and our country and everything they stand for,” added Tom and Kyla. “We are motivated by a strong sense of urgency and deep gratitude that we both feel.”
